Historic and famous, the Luna Park in Melbourne is located on Port Phillip Bay in St Kilda, Victoria. Opened in 1912, it's one of two Luna Parks still operational in Australia. The other is located on the Sydney Harbor. The Luna Park includes classics such as the Mr. Moon Gateway, Scenic Railway, Carousel, Ghost Train, Dodgem's Building, Metropolis Roller Coaster, Spider, Ferris Wheel and much more. The Pharaoh's Curse, Metropolis and the Enterprise rides are among the new favorites enjoyed by children. The park is registered at the National Trust of Australia and is also recorded in the Victorian Heritage Register.
The Scenic Railway is the oldest continuously run roller coaster worldwide and the Ghost Train dates back to 1934. Mechanical thrill rides are very much a part of the Luna Park and the park's popularity among children is largely due to these fun rides and their parents' memories of a fun childhood spent at the same location. The Luna Park was purchased by the transport magnate Lindsay Fox in 2005. Since then, the older rides have received a few face lifts and more temporary attractions have been added, such as the Lara Croft Tomb Raider experience. The Scenic Railway was repaired very recently and opened again in June 2008. Luna Park has often been featured in the popular Australian soap opera, Neighbors.
Besides all the thrilling rides and fun tours, the Luna Park offers excellent restaurants and cafes for grabbing a snack after a ride or sitting down with the entire family to enjoy a hearty meal. Many retail souvenir shops are also available inside the park, selling t-shirts, caps, hats, show bags, balloons and stationery. Several games are also made available, just in case one get tired of going on the rides all day. These games include Indy 500, Bucket “O” Fun, Crazy Castle, Roller Derby, Laughing Clowns, Lucky Star and Basketball.
When visiting Melbourne, a visit to Luna Park should not be missed. There are many serviced residences situated near the park with easy access to other important destinations around the area. These Melbourne serviced apartments provide comfortable accommodation, modern conveniences and excellent services, while providing residents with the full satisfaction of staying in this fun-filled area.
