Hello again, dear reader. Today I am going to give you some advices on how to make the best out of your experience in Cuba.
If you really want to get to know this amazing Caribbean island then try to avoid the cheap classic package holiday to Cuba that sells flights and accommodation for as little as 499.00 sterling pounds per person based on 2 people sharing a standard room. There is actually nothing wrong with the quality of accommodation or flights but to travel for 9 hours on a plane across the Atlantic to end up secluded in a private beach is definitely the worst way to know Cuba.
This kind of holiday will attract the tourist that is not interested in culture whatsoever and would rather stay on a beach resort and eat and drink as much as he/she can stomach. There is nothing wrong with that but why bother then travelling for so long when you can find better deals a lot closer.
If you really want to get to know Cuba then you have to at least visit Havana and then if you still want some well deserved relaxation in a beach you can always get that at the end of your holidays. Havana will be the main source of culture interaction. Being the most cosmopolitan city in Cuba, having the best museums, night clubs, restaurants will for sure be the high lights of your stay in Cuba.
Of course Havana is not the only interesting location in Cuba. You can explore places like Trinidad, Pinar del Rio, Cienfuegos, Holguin and Santiago de Cuba, this last one particularly appealing for its music and its mountains.
If you are thinking of organizing a tailor made holiday to Cuba make sure to consider the following factors: number of nights or days that you can spend on your holidays and driving distances between cities in Cuba. Some people ignore that Cuba is actually not a small island as it looks in the map. It is the largest island in the Caribbean and it takes well over 20 hours non stop drive from east to west.
Once you have decided what is feasible taking into consideration the above you have to make another decision. How to move from A to B? Well there are various options.
Option 1: Hire a car: They are not too expensive in Cuba and are relatively a reliable way to move around. There are not many road signs but very good road maps and friendly people always willing to help. Please try to avoid hitch hikers.
Option 2: Ask your tour operator to include in the costing all the transfers from A to B. This could be the most expensive way to move around as in many cases this will require the use of taxis.
Option 3: Try the bus station VIAZUL which connects the main destinations in Cuba; the prices are very cheap and the quality of the service is very good.
Option 4: Ask for a tour guided transfer of escorted tailor made itinerary. This in my opinion is the best way to get to know Cuba. The tour guides speak very good English and are very well trained in topics like history, architecture, religion and no one knows the island as well as them.
Know that tailor making an itinerary like this will not be as cheap as buying 1 or 2 weeks on a beach in Cuba but it will definitely be the best way to get to know Cuba.
