A great way to enjoy your summer is to get out on the water and explore a lake, stream, river or ocean. The are several factors that you need to consider when it comes to choosing your destination and to plan the ultimate getaway. First you want to consider whom you are going to traveling with.

Then consider how long you want to be gone and what you want to do while on your vacation. Do you want to see the local wildlife and enjoy the scenery or would you prefer to go for the historic sites and activities. Lastly consider the ultimate cost of your trip such as the cost of lodging if you won't stay on your vessel. Throughout the United States there are several excellent boating destinations. Consider the following top destinations when planning your next getaway.

First up is Finger Lakes, New York. Here you can have excellent scenery to enjoy while taking the time to sail your boat around waterfalls, rocky canyons, state parks, wineries and a variety of beautiful seascapes. For those who want to just relax and enjoy the scenery there is no better destination in the United States than Finger Lakes, New York.

If fishing is your interest then you should consider Lake Erie Islands, Ohio. This lake is best known for its yellow perch and small bass among many other species of fish. This lake is perfect for a day fishing trip, but also offers enough change of scenery that you can easily take a week and still not be able to fish the entire lake.

For those that want to enjoy the local wildlife then you should try Lake Okeechobee, Florida. Here you can find a thirteen hundred mile trail that from the Florida Panhandle to the Big Cypress National Preserve. Along this trail you can not only enjoy breathtaking views, but you can also see a variety of local wildlife. During the summer months you can catch a glimpse of alligator hatchlings, baby raccoons, foxes, armadillos and bobcats just as they leave their mothers since breeding season starts in July.

Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri offers a wide variety of choices. This lake has ninety-five miles of water front property that offers everything from party coves with restaurants and bars to private coves where you can drop anchor and enjoy a private moment with no one around. So it your want a wide variety of activities to choose from you definitely want to choose this destination.

The widest selection of activities can be found along the Russian River, California. Here you will have plenty of activities to keep you busy all summer long. There is horseback riding along the beach, canoe trips, wine tasting tours and the Fort Ross State Park, which offers some excellent views of rugged offshore rocks and steep sea cliffs along the Pacific Ocean. This is a perfect boating vacation for the whole family to enjoy.

When it comes to boating there is no shortage of destinations to choose from in the United States. Consider the above destinations when planning your next boating vacation. Choose a destination that offers the activities you want at a price you can afford. With so many destinations to choose from you are sure to find one that will meet your needs.
