The Republic of Singapore is a truly remarkable island microstate that has been developing dramatically over the years. It developed quite convincingly from a small fishing village to one of the world’s greatest sea ports.
Meanwhile, The Singapore River has played a key role in the nation’s development and has seen its progress from the very beginning. The area surrounding the River is complete with monuments and places with historic significance. The area is also dotted with many appealing dining venues, art galleries, shopping premises, astounding skyscrapers, museums, entertainment venues and fun filled parks. Visitors with plenty of time in hand can meticulously explore the surroundings by foot. But there is also the very interesting boat ride on the river that will cover most of the area in just less than an hour.
The main source of The Singapore River is at Kim Seng Bridge and the river itself is 11 kilometres in length. During the time when Sir Stamford Raffles discovered the outstanding island of Singapore, the river was the dwelling place for many businessman and merchants who were also the ancestors of the nation.
The most famous feature of the Singapore River is the Merlion which also stands as a prominent icon of the city. There are also some significant bridges such as the Anderson Bridge, Ord Bridge and Cavenagh Bridge. The river is also surrounded by mosques and temples like Omar Kampong Melaka Mosque and Tan Si Chong Su Temple.
Several attractions and important landmarks are also located alongside the banks of the Singapore River. The Parliament House, Merlion Park and Asian Civilisations Museum are to name a few.
Enjoying a boat ride along the Singapore River has become a must do activity for most travellers visiting this outstanding island. Travellers can get on to a boat from places like Raffles Place, Clifford Pier, Raffles’ Landing Site and Clarke Quay.
To further explore the wonders and excitement of Singapore’s much loved river, travellers can board in at any of the numerous Singapore serviced apartments. Most of the Singapore serviced accommodations offer its guests maximum comfort along with home like facilities. Accommodations like Somerset Grand Cairnhill are ideal for both corporate and leisure travellers alike.
