It does not matter whether you have one child or five, any parent will tell you that traveling with a child is one of the most trying moments in parenthood. There have been stories of a forgotten shoe, missing favorite toy, missing clothes that you could have sworn you packed and cries of "am hungry and thirsty and my ear is aching mummy," never mind that the next shopping center is half a day away. there is also the all-familiar story of packing too much 'just in case'. The result is too much luggage, which can easily get lost especially if you are using public transport and muscle aches and pain from carrying bags that are bursting at the seams. Does this sound familiar? you can change all that. here are tips that will make traveling with your children hassle-free.
Packing Made Easy
You will agree that there is something about unfamiliar environments that deprive one of sleep. your child is no different, he will have trouble going to sleep in new surroundings. To avoid this, make the new environment resemble what he is used to as much as possible. Pack anything that will help your child sleep. It could be a favorite blanket, teddy bear, pajamas or his favorite story book. Even if you will be gone for only a day, pack extra clothing because anything can happen- including drastic change of weather as well as the spills you already familiar with. If visiting friends of relative whose children are of the same age as yours, borrowing clothes may be wise especially if the weather is uncertain.
Medicine is a must. Don't forget paracetamol for that sudden headaches as well as something for the fever and tummy ache. Avoid buying over the counter though, it is important to seek guidance from a doctor on the appropriate medication for different ailments. If your child is on regular medication for conditions such as asthma, ensure that you have enough. Pack medicine in your carry- on luggage in case you need it immediately and also to avoid misplacing or losing it. If your child suffers from any chronic medical condition, ensure that there is a hospital near your choice of holiday destination. snacks are a must. Unlike adults children need something to eat and drink from time to time. To avoid the wailing and moaning related to hunger pangs, pack fruits, sandwiches, crisp, biscuits and juice- anything that your child likes. For small babies, remember to carry feeding bottles, baby spoons, bibs, powdered milk and of course his/her food. Leave your washable nappies at home and but disposable ones. The aim of going on holiday is to get away from the familiar and experience new things. Your children will have a lot to distract them and there is no need to pack all the toys you can lay your hands on. Just carry the two favorite ones.
Holiday Tips at A Glance
First pack your children's clothing and other items in a separate bag to avoid wasting time searching for them in other bags. Second event though your destination is all sun and sand, carry sports shoes, socks and warm clothing for those surprise chilly nights. Third in Africa mosquito repellent and sunscreen is a must and a large bottle of water. Forth allow older children to pack items, which they feel they must have. as long as they do not intend to carry the home stereo, allow them to indulge themselves finally when traveling abroad always carry your passport, flight tickets, credit card, travelers cheques and other valuable in your hand baggage not in your suitcases and avoid last minute packing
