Situated 32 km south west of Melbourne, Victoria, the Werribee Open Range Zoo houses several species of Australian and African wildlife. It is situated along the river, in the Werribee park, near the Werribee mansion.
There are regular buses for transportation within the Werribee Open Range Zoo, and these are spaced conveniently at twenty minute intervals with a regular frequency. This allows the vacationers to go about the sections they want to visit by taking the designated bus ride. The Safari tour takes approximately an hour, along with the guides. At a time, around 72 people can take this ride. Although filming and shooting pictures are allowed, eating, smoking and alcohol are not permitted while on the safari tour. The bus for the ride typically starts from the Meerkat Bistro and Function Center where passengers can board the vehicle.
The tour is fun, exciting, and adventurous as many different wild Australian animals like the Emu, the brolga, the pelican, etc. can be spotted. Along with grassland wild animals like the zebra, waterbuck, ostrich, giraffe, rhinoceros, the oryx and camels can be typically seen. The animals are maintained in the open range and not released as long as they are not sufficiently bonded with their mothers.
Other tourist attractions at the Werribee Open Range Zoo include a simulation of a typical African village. This part is very entertaining as well as informative. You can see a mock-up of an African ranger while tracking lions along with an interactive soundscape walk where lions can be heard roaring and gruntin. There are two trails that travelers can choose: the Pula Reserve Walking Trail (800 m/ around 40 minutes) which shows African animals, and the Volcanic Plains Walk (500 m/ around 30 minutes), that shows the Australian animals, such as the Wallaby and Kangaroo.
The Werribee Open Range Zoo is a great tourist attraction as it gives one an opportunity to learn about the Australian and the African wildlife and also have fun at the same time. There are several programs available that give important and resourceful information and details about the various aspects of wildlife in a typical geographical setting.
