Chris Courtis enjoys writing about Water Fountains and water features for the business environment, home and garden.
The essence in creation is the same between all the waterfalls and this is the difference in the hardness of the rock. The hard rock is naturally harder to erode and as the water flows over thousands of years the softer rock erodes away and this produces the cliff or face of the waterfall and this is the formation of the falls. At the base of the waterfall is what is known as the plunge pool and this is created when some of the water falls onto the cliff face and erodes back into the cliff and the pool is formed.
There are some interesting facts and figures about waterfalls and here are just some of the most impressive. The tallest of all the waterfalls is Angel Falls and this is a whopping 979 metres in height and this can only be admired in its full beauty by seeing it first hand. The highest of the waterfalls is in South Africa and is Tugela Falls and this is 947 metres in height, these are the highest outside Europe and inside the highest of the falls are 800 metres high and this is Utigard in Norway. The waterfall that has the most visitors is the Niagra falls and this is the most famous of all the waterfalls. Waterfalls really are a tourist magnet and thousands of people flock to see them and admire the shear force and beauty of the water that flows over the edge of the falls. Over time people have learnt a lot from waterfalls and the force of the water has been used for many things such as powering power stations, but primarily they are simply there to be admired.
There are lots of different types of waterfalls and the common ones make up all of the worlds most impressive falls. The cascade, plunge, tiered and multi-step is the ones that are most common and waterfalls such as Niagra Falls, Victoria falls and Angel falls are all types of these waterfalls. The cascade is the most impressive of all and this is perfectly set in example with the Niagra Falls which is renowned for the beauty and the recreational and commercial elements of the falls. The fall stretches along a significant carving in stone and this is the cascade element of the waterfall and in total there are three different drops, the horseshoe, American and Bridal. There are waterfalls that are smaller and no less impressive and the chances are there will be a waterfall nearby to where you are and they are well worth a visit to admire and listen to the power and relaxing sound of the flowing water.
