Rules of Driving an HGV

In the earlier times, HGV was quite popular unlike today where the once admired HGV has shown some decline in its popularity. Despite the misconceptions about HGV industry, many people still opt for a career in the HGV industry. HGV delivers heavy and bulky cargo between factories as well as warehouses and hence require a strong driver capable of manoeuvring a truck as big and heavy as a HGV to avoid causing accidents.

It’s not only expensive but also very difficult to get a license to drive a HGV. HGV has two categories of driving license, N2 and N3 license. The N2 license is meant for drivers going for a HGV that can carry between 3.5 and 12 tons of maximum allowed mass, while N3 license is for drivers that can drive a HGV that can carry more than 12 tons.

There are two ways how one can get the HGV license. One way of getting the HGV license is by getting somebody who will sponsor you, the other method is by paying for the license yourself. However, paying for a HGV license yourself is a much better option as compared to looking for sponsorship. Though not impossible, finding a sponsor is usually very hard and requires that you join a company that will provide free training for you to drive a HGV. The trouble with free company training is that you will not only have to work for the company upon the completion of your training but also buy your own HGV. On the other hand, when you pay for the license yourself, you will get the license after successfully taking a few lessons and passing some tests. The advantage of this is that you are free to work for anyone of your choice, or better still you can drive your own HGV.

The other rule of driving a HGV is that all HGVs must have HGV insurance. The main purpose of the HGV insurance is to safe guard not only your interests but your client’s as well more so when you operate HGV business. HGV insurance is costly; however, if your HGV is covered by insurance, it will increase your credibility which is good for your business. Since HGV insurance is mandatory, make sure you get HGV insurance when buying your HGV to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law that will cost you dearly which is not good for business.

Though very expensive, goods in transit insurance is the most ideal insurance for your HGV since it covers your HGV against loss, damage or both. To have a peace of mind, it’s worth price. This type of insurance comes in handy whenever accidents involving your HGV occur when you least expect it. There are several other types of insurance on offer though the goods in transit insurance is the most suitable for HGV business. All HGV owners have to adhere to the rules if they don’t want any interference with their HGV business. In any case all vehicles on the road do require insurance be it a HGV or a car, after all, it is for your own good.
