Tim Drohan was born in 1959 in Bristol. He went to school at St Brendan’s College and Prior Park and then obtained an honours degree at UWE. After that he joined Western Freights – one of the regions top transport and warehousing companies. He undertook a variety of roles within the company and ultimately became chief executive and under his stewardship the company transformed into a logistics business serving many of the big players in the ambient grocery market. In 1999 having reached a turnover of £7m he sold the business and focused on property investment and business consultancy in the UK and Europe. In 2003 he moved to Barcelona to undertake a training contract which lasted for 2 years. He returned to his native Bristol from Spain where he lived for a couple of years and started a successful Bristol Serviced Apartments company – Alderman Apartments that provides accommodation and serviced apartments in Bristol’s prime locations.
Fed up with inflexible and expensive hotels? Having spent years travelling for both business and leisure, we were. Then, a couple of years ago, we discovered the joys of Serviced Apartments. The idea was so good, we started a company providing this service so that people like us could discover a luxurious and spacious “home from home” in Bristol .
With individually furnished one and two bedroom apartments conveniently located throughout the city, we can meet the needs of any discerning visitor to the city.
What is a serviced apartment?
A serviced apartment is a domicile available to rent by the day, week or month. It is complete with all the items necessary for you just to move in. These include such things as cooking apparatus, furniture, bedding, broadband, cable/satellite TV, CD and DVD player.
It is also customary for serviced apartments to provide services like maid services and linen changes.
How is a serviced apartment different from a hotel?
Basically, hotels target tourists and business people who only want a very short stay where serviced apartments provide quarters for guests to live with amenities ideal for those who want to do more than sleep.
Unlike hotels where you have to work to their timetable serviced apartments offer you the opportunity to continue to live your life the way you want to – working, eating, relaxing and sleeping in ways that suit you.
We work predominantly with executives and consultants on long term projects, people relocating or between homes, families and friends visiting their relatives and visitors exploring what Bristol and the surrounding country have to offer.
What should you look for when selecting a serviced apartment?
Surrounding area – is it convenient for travelling to work or to take the children to school? Are their shopping areas, cafes and restaurants nearby? Is there good access to public transport? Is the area safe and reputable?
Room type and layout – even with the same number of rooms, size and layout often differ. Check out that these meet your needs
Quality of the amenities – don't be afraid to ask to view your apartment in advance – after all it will be your home. Check for age, quality and comfort.
Items included and excluded – it is important to verify what is included in the rent such as cleaning, linen change, telephone line, utilities, broadband and internet charges.
What is the notice period – the whole point of serviced accommodation is that it is reasonably flexible. Any notice period longer than a month should be unacceptable.
Armed with this check list you should confidently be able to find a serviced apartment to meet your individual need. Whether you are in Bristol for work or leisure, visiting friends and family or between homes there will be the right apartment for you.
If you are traveling with your family, your children can enjoy the space to play with their toys- especially on a rainy day, whilst you relax and enjoy listening to your cd collection. Convenience of sofa bed for your friends who can come and stay too! After a successful shopping trip you have plenty of space to store the shopping!
If you are on a weekend break visiting family, why not invite them round for dinner or you are away for that special anniversary, then check out advice on good local takeaway and have dinner delivered as a real treat. You only pay for the apartment so there are great savings for groups/large families traveling together.
At last we have a good link to the Bristol airport.
The Bristol International Flyer is the only express coach link between Bristol railway station (Temple Meads) and Bristol bus station and Bristol International Airport. Furthermore a new service now connects with key hotels throughout the city centre, Clifton and Redland. There is a comfortable Flyer lounge at Temple Meads train station. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes. There is no need to pre book, simply pay on board.
Bristol International Flyer - New Route & Improved Frequency
The Flyer Express Coach link between Bristol International and Temple Meads Railway Station will now operate every 15 minutes at peak times. This improved frequency will allow greater connections with the rail network and coincides with the launch of an exciting NEW coach route serving the key serviced apartments in the City Centre, and the Clifton and Redland areas of Bristol.
