WATCH THE BIRDIE!
The Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is paradise for bird watchers. This is the last stop for over 70 species of migrating birds stopping here on the way to warmer climes in Africa. You can literally watch them from your Villa Quinta do Lago.
The nature reserve is one of the most important wetlands in Europe and is bordered to the south by the spectacular Atlantic beaches. Colonies of the splendid Pink Flamingos are regularly seen here, there is also a good variety of indigenous birds which nest and spend the whole year here.
The reserve is an oasis of great environmental value; the Ria Formosa boasts over 40 miles of beaches, the longest stretch of protected coastline in Western Europe. There are nature trails throughout the reserve, you literally walk out of your Villa Quinta do Lago and admire this plethora of exotic flora and fauna at your doorstep.
It is the ideal location for bird watching, and the climate is perfect with over 300 days of sunshine per year and temperatures that rarely fall below 15 degrees or above 35 degrees, it is hard to imagine a better year round-location.
It is just over 2 hours flying time from most major European airports so it is not surprising that many people have chosen a Villa Quinta do Lago as their permanent place to live, a wonderful location to enjoy outdoor pursuits, be it golf, riding or watching the birdies!
