It's crazy that there are so many gamers out there looking online for a way to fix RRoD permanently. The XBOX 360 is a great video game console, but it has unfortunately had quite a few hardware problems. Undoubtedly, you are personally familiar with what I'm talking about. There are many causes, but usually only one result: RRoD, or the Red Ring of Death. It's a fatal hardware error that renders your system completely toast. There are indeed a lot of temporary fix ideas out there on the web, but there really are only 2 real methods to fix RRoD permanently, and not have to worry about your console failing again.
1) Send Your XBOX 360 Back to Microsoft - You can send your system back to Microsoft to be fixed permanently. It's a solid idea, however this is the most expensive option to fix RRoD permanently. Really expensive. If your warranty is up, it will probably cost over $200 to ship XBOX 360 and get it repaired. This will definitely fix RRoD permanently, but it will take a ton of cash to do it. This is the reason why most gamers decide to go with the second option.
2) Replace Your Console's GPU X-clamp - The Red Ring of Death really is a big problem, but the repairs can be done easily by yourself with everyday tools, even if you're a "tech dummy" like myself. You simply need to replace the X-clamp that holds your XBOX 360's GPU in place. These come loose due to heat, and are always the cause of RRoD. The important thing to remember, though, is that you need to follow a good repair guide put together by industry professionals. It should also have a lot of outstanding customer testimonials. I purchased a great guide myself for under $30 that has a color PDF, video instructions, and an online members area where new information and tutorials are constantly posted. I followed the instructions and videos, and I was able to fix my XBOX 360 permanently in just about an hour.
