Block sections show the blood supply and cellular arrangement of the adrenals. Two different regions are distinguishable--the cortex, controlled by the pituitary hormone ACTH, produces hormones which maintain body chemistry, and the medulla, which secretes adrenaline and noradrenaline to increase body activity.
