Adobe® AIR™ is the runtime for desktop based Rich Internet Applications that run on multiple operating systems. AIR stands for Adobe Integrated Runtime. In addition to the features available in the Flash player, AIR provides an additional API that makes development of very rich and interactive desktop applications possible in a relatively shorter time compared to most other development platforms.

Flex is a standard-based programming model for high performance rich internet applications.

Although their work ends up being merged and managed for the benefit of Internet users, the “techies” and the “designers” do different parts of the project. A few folks are good at both design and writing code, but typically there are different people doing these different tasks.
