Referrals Are Like Gold

It's a story you want to hear. A patient comes to your office, you do a great service, and that patient tells her family and friends. Before you know it, this kind of word-of-mouth marketing created a steady stream of patients.

If you look at your current practice, you'll notice one striking fact - that the chunk of your patient comes to you via referrals. For most, referrals happen accidentally. Someone at dinner mentioned her health concern and everybody started bragging that wonderful doctor they saw a few weeks ago.

What if you those valuable referrals happen intentionally? When than happens, people will find you. God knows how, but they will.

Perhaps one of the most important word in a professional's success is trust. The more trustworthy you are, the more people will come to you. Unfortunately, we don't trust you. Not yet. But when a friend or relative says that you are OK, in effect, you are earning our trust.

Some thinks it's unprofessional to ask for referrals, some fear being rejected, some feels they appear to be begging, while others think patients don't really care.

From a financial sense, referrals give you the best bang for your buck. It costs very little, if any, to ask a happy patient for a referral. Compare that to the money you spend on newspaper advertisements that people don't read, a referral provides a better return on your time and money.

f you think patients will be put off if you ask for referrals, just remember people love to give referrals. We feel good every time we know we have helped somebody.

If you provide a service that helps people get better and healthier, then you are doing a disservice to the world if others would not know about you.
