4 Your Money: Trade In Deal Gets Cash For Glasses

we're all dealing with it but if taking care of your eyes has taken a backseat due to the cost, there is a South Florida optometrist who is trying to help.

Modeled after the government's cash for clunkers program, Hollywood Eyes on Harrison Street is offering cash for your old semi rimless eyeglasses.

"If I can reduce the cost of my new glasses, this would be wonderful," said Toby Lundy who was due for new new glasses , so she signed up for the deal.

"I don't have a car that I could have traded in for the Cash for Clunkers program, but this is the next best way to go," Lundy told CBS4's Jorge Estevez.

Like a car trade-in, Lundy dropped off her old glasses and she did so, sooner than she would have because of the incentive.

"I gave them a pair of my old glasses and they took 25 dollars of my bill," said Lundy.

The man behind this plan is Dr Barry Kay.

"I was actually reading an article about people doing clunker things in other areas and I thought, why can't we do that," said Dr. Kay.

So not only is Dr. Kay stimulating his economy, he is also donating the used eyeglasses to the Broward Outreach Center who then hands them out to people in need.

"They go on these missions and they need these eye glasses so yeah it is a perfect match," said Dr. Kay.

The deal where customers can save $25 on new glasses to replace old ones will expire at the end of November.

Refraction is the basic test of the eye’s focus problems or refractive errors. In general, there are three types of refractive errors: hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism. Hyperopia refers to the condition that the eye is shorter than normal, resulting in a focal point behind the retina which leads to blurry near vision. Myopia is an opposite condition that results from too long eyes. Nearsighted people can not see distant objects clearly. Astigmatic individuals have aspheric corneas which have di

Though Glaucoma is a very common-heard eye disease, not all people know what it is. The root of glaucoma is too much pressure in the eyeballs. In normal conditions, our eyes are like round balls, and if they change in shape, we will suffer from some eye problems. For example, when they like eggs, we suffer from astigmatism. In general, the eye’s focus and pupil size are under control of the internal muscles, while external muscles have more responsibilities. External muscles direct the eyes to the right point and keep the retinal image in constant slight motion. In fact, both internal and external muscles are quite important in maintaining good eye health.

Critical eye exams for everyone

By: Jeffery Scott | 18/12/2009 | Vision
As one of the most sensitive organs of the human body, the eye is prone to risk. Natural aging, disease and injury may contribute to eyesight deterioration in one person. Doctors suggest that ordinary people should visit an ophthalmologist systematically to get a complete eye exam. Individuals should receive a regular eye exam at least every three years. Early detection and treatment of underlying eye diseases are critical for maintaining good eye health.
