Services using genetic information have started to appear over the last few years, for information on ancestors or tests for typical diseases. Customers DNA samples are used to create a DNA fingerprint and the image is then used by their artists to create original and unique oil paintings in the customer’s choice of colours. The service offers customers a contemporary personal DNA artwork that matches the decor.
As the fruit of the collaboration between scientific and artistic worlds, this approach uses the most advanced genetic techniques and inspired creativity to paint the most personalized portraits. This sort of personalised art can be done for individuals, couples or even an entire family making an image of differences and similarities in the genetic profile of the subjects. For people with a modern decor in their house a traditional portrait might not go, however an abstract "portrait" of their DNA is ideal.
The process is simple and takes about eight weeks in total. After ordering a DNA sample kit is sent to the customer. The customer simply swabs their cheek using the sample kit provided and sends it to the lab. The lab produces the DNA fingerprint in a variety of different styles. The artist then uses the fingerprint image, instructions from the customer and their colour choices to create an oil painting. The customer then views the image and the artist makes any changes needed until the customer is happy and then paintings are framed if required and delivered. DNA samples are destroyed after use and no records kept, so customer's privacy is assured.
This is an exciting new trend in using DNA information, over the next few years we are likely to see an explosion in the use of DNA analysis services as they become cheaper and more useful.
