Tattoo Considerations

Tattooing your body has gained a new level of acceptance and popularity. The old stigmata of tattoos being just for sailors, jailbirds and bikers has gone by the wayside. The illegal back room tattoo parlor has been replaced by posh new tattoo and "Body Art" salons that are popping up by the dozens in some of the finest areas of our major cities. And the old "Home Made" tattoo gun made from a collection of parts from everything from electric toothbrushes, eight-track tape players and rubber bands, have long been replaced by affordable new high-tech gadgets that have the capability of "Picture Perfect" work, in the right hands.

When walking into a tattoo parlor for the first time, most people are "awe struck" by all of the tiny pictures and creations of art that cover the walls from top to bottom. And to look through album after album of galleries of tattoos that are available to be transferred onto your body, makes the mind wonder where it all came from. Some of the artwork that can be laid down with ink into your skin is truly nothing short of amazing. A good tattooist can take an old black and white photograph and duplicate it better than the original right onto your skin. It's hard not to like, easy to fall in love with, and can be addictive once you have your first one done.

If you are getting your very first tattoo, there are a few things to consider before following through with it. Of course the first thing would be what the tattoo will be a picture of, which even though is a total personal preference, should be well thought out. Tattoos can tell a story of your life or commemorate events or the lives of loved ones, alive or deceased.

Depending on your status "in the classes", you may want to think about any negative effect a tattoo will have on your job or place in life before getting one. A lot of employers still frown on tattoos that can easily be seen on the body. Think about any impact it might have on your future, as tattoos have silently held many people back from advancement in the workplace. So in addition to what you'll get, consider just as carefully where you will have it put.

The most important thing to consider once you are dead set on getting a tattoo is the cleanliness of the shop that's giving it to you. Do what you have to do to make sure everything is sterilized before the needles hit your skin. The chances of picking up a deadly germ of some type makes it all not worth it! Most professional establishments will be certified by the local health department. It dosen't hurt to ask questions for your own protection.

Just remember that even though tattoos can be removed using painful and costly methods, for the most part consider them permanent. You will be looking at it for the rest of your life.
