Tips for Planning Your Kayaking Trip

There is no better place to try your kayaking skills in the sea that the spots in Baja Mexico. You are a kayaking geek and haven’t been there I would say you have missed out on the Mecca of kayaking. The sea kayaking experience along the coast of the sea of Cortez is vibrant with tranquility and provides a relief from the throes of civilization.

Scheduling The Trip:

The best time to schedule the trip would be around the time of warm winters in Baje Mexico. That’s the time when you will be able to find lots of space for yourself. In case you are one of those who prefer a long tranquil kayak in solitude rather than bearing the crowd then you should approach the hotel staff to get you in on some of the secret coasts which the locals are aware of. Whenever I am in the mood of solitude theses are coasts I head for, you will end up having the whole beach to yourself and can Kayak at peace. It is also fun to watch and learn from fellow kayakers who would be teaming in mostly along this time. Most of them would be pros and would be a great learning source if you want to improve on your kayaking skills.

Getting Your Kayaking Gear:

Make sure you pack all you gear in before you make for the trip. There are several kayaking gear shops along the coastal line but I not too sure of the prices there, I ve heard that it would be expensive to shop from a tourist spot and hence to be on the safer side you should stock in on all you kayaking gear from a sports shop you are familiar with or from the internet where you will find several discount offers. I had purchased a Kayak jacket last year which I love, it the perfect way to stay dry and warm in the cold waters. There are several times when I practice my bracing style and end up with a complete immersion and this gear is a lot of help during these stunts. The best way to improve you bracing skills would be to practice these stunts in calm waters, and the coasts of Baja provide you with just that.

Not For The White Water Lovers:

Let me be clear that these coastal lines are perfect for sea kayaking but you won’t find white water source around or nearby. If you are a white water lover you should be heading to the other spots not to Baja. This place is known for sea kayaking and it’s the best when it comes to exploring the coasts either individually or with a commission. I have done several tour kayaks with my friends and the scenery around never ceases to impress me. The reason why I keep heading to this coast every year is because of the low level of civilization effect that you will find as a unique selling point of this spot. I have not tried much of white water except once on a tour to Australia but I think I am sea kayaking lover through and through.

By: Josh Stevens | 24/11/2009
Maintaining a good kick while doing the front crawl, is not so much for propulsion as it is for body control.
