Are you contemplating on getting a used wakeboard boat? Remember that boats need a load more upkeep and care than autos so it is better to make an informed decision before purchasing it. So, here?s a comprehensive checklist to help you decide if the boat you are eyeing on is worth the price.

The Hull
Permit yourself to go around the ship while doing this. Watch for hollow areas or those that are marked with mismatched coats of paint. This is an indicator the ship has had an accident.
Are there softer spots on the boat?s floor? What about mildew ( drop on your hands and knees to inspect this)? If there are, this is a sign the ship is rotting and may not be in the best condition.
DETERMINE ITS HISTORY
A boat that has five hundred hours or more of use could be needing upkeep and too many upgrades later on.
Ask the previous owners how long the ship was stored while not in use. Was it kept in a dry area or just outside under the hot sun? Was the ship covered while in storage?
Ask about upkeep from the previous owners. Did it have any major repairs in the last couple of years? Was there any work ever done to the boat? What about warranty?
GO FOR A TEST DRIVE
Be aware of these when you bring the ship for a spin out in the water:
Fastidiously move from one direction to another to see the way in which the ship responds.
Check the shifting or changing of gears. Is it smooth or do you bump into jumps and difficulty? What about the reverse gear?
Check for vibration.
Check the working trim. Can you simply move at an angled position?
Are they accurate? Is the speedometer still accurate? Is the speedometer still working properly?
If possible, have someone along when you do your try out. The extra weight can affect the boat?s performance that will help you identify if it is any good.
Also if possible, have a mechanic with you to do the inspection. The mechanic can go thru the boat?s parts like wires, belts, alternator, plugs, etc, and make a pro research of its condition.
These may include a stereo, an anchor or a life jacket, or something you can use when you ride the boat.
