7 Easy Ways To Save Some Money

There are a lot of easy ways to save some money--many of which most of us never think about.  Here's a short list of some ways to save a few dollars here and there.

  • Cook in.  Instead of going out to eat every night, stay in and cook a homemade meal.  Many families today are so busy and in such a hurry that they often grab take-out meals in the interest of time.  Not only is this expensive, but it often robs the family of some needed quality time together.  Try to cook and eat at home at least half of the time.  If you don't have time to cook during the week, you can cook some meals over the weekend and put them in the freezer for use in the following week.
  • Cash in your pocket change.  What family doesn't have a jar or container sitting around the house in which extra change gets deposited on a regular basis?  If your family has one of those, take the container to a bank or store with a Coinstar machine.  You don't have to worry about wrapping the change into rolls.  Just dump the container of coins into the Coinstar machine and in a few second, it will be counted and you will have a receipt to take to the cashier's window to receive a payment in cash--green money.
  • Make a list before grocery shopping.  Always make a list of what you need before you head to the grocery store and stick to that list.  Impulse shopping is a way to waste a lot of money.  If you stick to your shopping list, you'll be surprised how much money you can save.
  • Give up a bad habit.  Whether it be cigarettes, pop or fancy coffees, abstain from these habits which are bad for your health as well as for your wallet.  Substitute something that is better for your health and easier on the pocketbook.
  • Swap, don't buy.  There are a lot of things that you can easily swap for insteading of buying, i.e. books, videos, music CD's, etc.  Most towns have a used book store and there are websites on the internet that will allow you to trade this items or purchase them at a much cheaper price.
  • Do it yourself.  There are many chores around the house that you may be paying others to do that you can easily do yourself.  Split up the housework chores among the entire family to make it easier.  Go to a local hardware store for help and instruction on how to take care of small fix-it chores around the house.  It will not only save money, but will also give you a great sense of accomplishment.

So, if you can incorporate only half of the above suggestions, you will be amazed at how much difference it will make in your pocketbook.  You'll be able to save a little extra money and you'll also have a sense of pride and accomplishment.
