Graduated from Arizona State Unviversity with a BA in Digital Art emphasis in Animation. While attending ASU Travis was able to dive deeper into taking an interesting in Marketing, Psychology, as well as extensive classes on color theory. Soon after his graduation he started putting his dreams in motion to start his own web design company. After months of research and networking Travis and Ross Brown became business partners finally opening up their very web design studio, Webflo Studios, LLC.
Recently I came across an excellent blog article that simply states a lot of very important principles our Webflo designers routinely employ in our clients' websites.
The first principle I'd like to discuss is Precedence, or guiding the eye. Precedence is a very useful tool in leading the user through the various parts on your site in the most efficient manner to make them aware of your logo message and content, in the proper order.
A very large portion of web design is about information, and how it is arranged. Thus, purposefully and deliberately designing the visual flow of the information is a key element in the overall design process.
Many different elements of a layout can influence the precedence, such as position on the page, the color you are using and the contrast it creates, as well as the design elements on your site. Specific objects will tend to lead the eye in a particular direction, such as a large arrow. In this case, the eye, of course, follows the arrow.
Navigation and Usability are two principles that have a lot of overlap in these concepts. They are both principles which have a generally accepted standard that the majority of sites should follow. Navigation is usually at the top or at the left of the page. An underlined text is usually a link.
Along these lines, the navigation we create is always easy to find and identify. The text on the button should be very clear in where it is going to take you. Other smaller touches are important as well. For example, when a button becomes active, some indication that it is active is very helpful to your site's visitors.
Usability is making it easier for a visitor to do anything he or she wants to do on your site. Maybe they want to find out your hours and location, or learn more about the services you offer; we will make it as easy as possible for your visitors to access that information from your homepage, which is the first page your visitors will see.
