If you have decided that you need/want a website, the only kind you want is a well designed, well planned one. What makes a Well designed website? You can probably answer that for yourself. What makes you return to websites you've visited in the past? Why are your favorite websites your favorite? Chances are it's easy to understand and navigate, provides good information and is "fun" to visit. Your website should reflect the current state of the Web. If it offers something for free, whether it be software, advice, humor or creditable information, people will visit your website in droves. Generally people tend to steer away from websites, which require payment, membership or other types of barriers.

Some good tips on designing a great website are:

  • Provide creditable, valid information and original content.

  • Make your website timely and update it frequently.

  • Plan your website with the slowest modem in mind. If your site loads quickly, people will generally stay around longer. This means resizing your graphic images, optimizing your HTML to load quickly without degrading the quality of the site
  • Make it well organized and easy to read. Many sites are hard to navigate or otherwise confusing, trying to find the information you want is a nightmare. You want your site very easy to use, understand and the information provided to be clear and concise.

  • Make your site the place to come for the information that you provide. Don't try and duplicate others work especially if they are more knowledgeable, provide links to their articles/advice. Instead of trying to mimic other people's work, use their work to enhance your site, provide links to them, make your site the dominant site for the market you want to capture. The Internet is all about sharing information with others.

  • When thinking about the design of your website, here are some questions you should ask yourself:

  • Who is my website for?

  • What do they want from the website?

  • What do I want from the website?

  • How will I maintain my website?

  • Answering these questions will provide you with the content your website should contain. This is the information that you will need to design and plan the site.

Designing the actual website is not as easy. It requires that you have a good working knowledge of HTML, graphics design, usability standards, CSS, database knowledge and other programming languages such as java, PHP, Active Script or ASP, and more. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what an experienced web designer is required to know.

Keeping the tips listed above in mind when planning your website will help increase traffic to your well designed website. If you make your site organized, clean and easy to navigate and provide valid credible information on a timely basis, you'll have swarms of visitors in no time

    Good Luck!!
