You probably already know that weddings are expensive. According to the Bridal Association of America it's $30,860 on average in 2009. With a few simple techniques you can be using your wedding ideas, on a budget that you can live with, to have the wedding you've always wanted. It takes 3 simple steps, knowing what you really want, thinking in a non-traditional way and being willing to ask for it.
1. Before you do anything else sit down and write a list of what you want your wedding to be about. What matters the most, to you. Put the list in sequence from must haves to things that would be nice, then keep it with you as you plan your wedding. Any ideas that you get, from friends, relatives or wedding vendors must be compatible with your list in some way.
2. Thinking in a non-traditional way can give you what you really want at a lot less cost. Here are a couple of examples: 1. Instead of getting married in a church use a public park, it still looks beautiful and the ceremony can be less formal. 2. Look on line for wedding dress manufactures and when they have closeouts, you can save a lot of money and still look great. 3. Wedding venues cost less on Fridays and Sundays and at off season times plus an early reception(between lunch and dinner) will not have to have a sit down meal and still be a great party.
3. Don't be afraid to ask for lower prices, it's called negotiation. In this economy a lot of wedding venues and vendors need the work as much as you need the service. Look for services that you need from local community colleges. You need to compare prices and not just take the first price that you get, ask for a discount or look for ways to barter for what you really want.
