Benefits of Letting the Groom Have a Say in Picking Your Wedding Invitations

Considering the multitude of aspects to consider and details to iron out when planning a wedding, it is easy to see how those who are planning the wedding can get overwhelmed. For many weddings, the bride does the majority of the planning. However, getting the groom involved can help you enjoy the experience, bond as a couple and avoid conflicts in the future when it is too late to change decisions that have been made. One way that you may want to consider getting the groom involved is by letting him help plan the wedding invitations. Here are some great benefits of letting the groom have a say in picking your wedding invitations:

Benefit #1: Your groom will consider different things as important, helping you narrow down the choices.

When it comes to wedding invitations, there are literally thousands of options. To your husband, different aspects of the invitations will be important. For example, you might be looking for wedding invitations within a budget that have ribbons, while your husband is more concerned that the wedding invitations come with matching thank you cards. With your groom’s help, a fresh perspective can help you to narrow down the possible choices out of all the available styles of wedding invitations.

Benefit #2: It takes some of the workload off of your shoulders.

Planning the menu, hiring the wedding band or DJ, finding a dress, tasting cakes…there are tons of little things that need to be done before your big day. Giving your husband-to-be some tasks is a great way to take off some of the pressure. Of all of these decisions, your wedding invitations are important, but are probably not near the top of the list. For many couples, if their wedding invitations are not what they envisioned at the beginning of the process, it isn’t a big deal. Let your husband pick out the invitations he likes best!

Benefit #3: Your finance will have a fresh perspective.

After looking at wedding invitation after wedding invitation for days or weeks, they can all start to look the same. After you have narrowed it down to your top five or ten favorites, ask your groom to step in and help make the final choice. Often times, someone who has been removed from the process will be able to rule out certain invitations right away for certain reasons. All you need is a fresh pair of eyes – and your husband-to-be can help you in that department.

Benefit #4: It gets your groom involved.

Some of the wedding decisions might be a big deal for you. For example, maybe you have always wanted bouquets of tiger lilies for you and your bridesmaids to carry down the aisle. It is easy to steamroll your groom on lots of decisions, but that isn’t really fair. After all, weddings are only possible with two people! By getting your groom involved with the wedding invitations, you are keeping him a part of the planning process without having to give up anything that is important to you.

Benefit #5: He can help you stay on budget.

For many couples, the groom is more conscious of the wedding budget than the bride. That happens not because brides are bad with money, but rather because brides are so immersed in the planning process that what seems like a totally reasonable amount of money to her would seem way too expensive to others not involved in the planning. Your groom can help you budget, and also, hopefully, knows when to say no to the invitations that will cost an arm and a leg.

Benefit #6: It’s a learning experience.

In the near future, you and your new husband will have to compromise on many of your family decisions. Use your wedding as a starting point. No matter how long you have been dating, there are still things you do not know about your groom. Get to know him even better during the planning process and use this experience to practice the art of compromise. For many couples, wedding invitations are not something to spend too much time on, so it is easier to make a decision together about invitations and work up to larger decisions. It is better to get the groom involved than to order the invitations and have him not approve.

Getting married is a huge step, and sending out the perfect wedding invitations for your big day is important to most couples. Most likely, the groom will have an opinion on the wedding invitations. Even if he is not overly involved in the wedding planning, that does not mean he doesn’t have an opinion about the invitations. There are many benefits to allowing him to help plan the invitations. After all, this might be the bride’s day, but it will also be one of the most important days in the groom's life, too.
