With the era of diva brides and the so called bridezilla’s, one should not forget to mention the diva bridesmaid. The diva bridesmaid is often over looked and not considered when discussing inappropriate behaviors of the bridal party. Unlike her sister the diva mother in law or the diva mother she is often more dangerous and causes more pain to the bride during the preparation stage of the wedding. I have heard story after story of bridesmaid’s who have created unnecessary drama for brides and additional stress. When choosing you bridal party it is important to consider the person’s availability, flexibility and temperament. Often it is when you decide to tie the knot that you find out who your friends truly are. If you bridesmaid’s cannot be happy for on the day and make some sacrifices then perhaps they are not the right ladies for the job. Maybe they’re not true friends. During my own personal experience I had a bridesmaid who decided that she wanted things at my wedding her way. One of the decisions I had made for the wedding was that there were no kids and initially she had a problem with this stating that she would have no one to leave her kids with and that as a result she couldn’t be a bridesmaid. So I made a concession for her stating that she is more than welcome to have someone babysit in the bridal room however I still did not want any kids in the reception. Again this was not acceptable but she remained in the bridal party and stated that she would get someone to look after the baby. A couple of months later after shopping for and placing an order for the bridesmaid’s dresses, she called me again stating that she could not be in the bridal party. This time it had to do with the dresses and her body image. Unlike some brides choices for their bridesmaid’s these gowns were elegant and could be worn again. Nevertheless should I have chosen the most hideous gown for them, she should have grinned and bared it, as the bridesmaid’s job dictates. She said that she felt uncomfortable with the gowns and that she did not want to be in the bridal party because of her own issues with her body image. This would have been great information to have earlier. However it was yet another excuse which inconvenienced me greatly because now I had an uneven bridal party and an extra dress. She still attended the wedding as a guest but never the less the friendship was never the same after her inability to put her own issues aside and help me enjoy my special day. Had she stated at the beginning that she did not want to be in the bridal party I would have understood. She instead accepted the duty and then caused all this unnecessary drama. She was definitely a bridesmaidzilla. I was able to replace her with another girlfriend so the wedding party still looked balanced. The moral to this story is to be sure of the people you are choosing to be in your bridal party are reliable and truly in it to help you and ensure your happiness. Also don’t feel guilty to pull the plug on any of your bridal party. If you start to see signs diva behavior early, nip it in the bud and cut them loose. True friends will always be on hand to help you through your special day. But please heed these words of wisdom and surround yourself with positive people on your wedding day.
