One of the most overlooked aspects of a wedding cake choice is the cake stand that it will be perched on when sitting on the table at your reception. Many cakes are constructed to use elaborate cake stands that compliment the whole cake design while others are basic and fit neatly on a simple serving platter or plate. Regardless of your choice, be sure that it compliments your cake and doesn’t detract from it or make the cutting ritual too uncomfortable.
Couples who love style and a big show will surely have wedding cakes created to take over the entire table and draw a great deal of attention to them. These elaborate cake creations often use fancy multi-tiered cake stands that mirror the cake’s decor in color and design. There are some cake designs that use multiple platforms while a few even utilize a nice fountain or similar extravagance to improve the overall presentation. While these displays can be hugely impressive, they are usually costly and cumbersome.
A great many modern wedding cakes use far simpler presentation methods and the cake stands they employ are usually as simple and as a basic as a serving platter or cake plate. This option may seem boring in comparison to the multi-tiered village that some more elaborate cakes tend to resemble, but it is often a good thing when a cake stand refrains from detraction from the well-designed wedding cake itself. If your cake itself is pretty and tastefully decorated, sometimes a simpler cake stand is appropriate.
If your cake has many tiers, you’ll likely want cake stands that go in between the layers. These can range from basic plastic prop-up sticks to much more involved stands with carved legs and designs on the surface.
What you choose to display and use to prop up the wedding cake is a personal choice in the wedding planning so take your time to choose how much the presentation will center on the stand itself. Maybe you leave it up to the bakery to decide but either way, there are numerous ways a wedding cake stand can affect the presentation and reception of wedding cakes.
