Ideas for your Wedding Songs

Wedding songs and music are so important to your wedding day and for most the songs they choose are a personal reflection of themselves. As your choice of music will provide the soundtrack to your wedding it is vital that you take your time when considering what to play, how to play it and when to play it.

Wedding songs can provide a nice link between the various elements of your day, as well as helping to set the tone and ambience of the occasion. Your choices need to be appropriate, include some personal style and also be familiar to your wedding guests (or most of them). However, sometimes it is not so much the choice of music that couples get stuck on, but how best to play them.

Deciding on how your music will be played can depend very much on your wedding budget and how you want your wedding music to sound. The music which is played throughout the day needs to reflect the nature of the occasion and the tone that you want. You may want to go for very traditional, classic wedding songs or choose something more laid back and casual. They way in which these songs are played will contribute greatly to this.

Live music is always a nice idea and you can hire musicians ranging from pianists to live bands. However, you will need to have a good budget as live musicians are not always cheap. Consider where you want live music to be played, and if your budget is tight think about where it will give you the best value for money. A live band for your evening party can be a great investment, whilst a string quartet playing during the reception could create a lasting and romantic memory.

Whenever you are choosing live music always try to see the musician(s) playing first so you have some idea of what they sound like, how good they are and their repertoire. If hiring a live band for your evening party then look for a band that can play music from across different genres and generations – you need to think ‘something for everyone’ if you are to entertain your guests successfully.

The alternative to live music is to use a sound system. Your venue(s) may have a perfectly adequate system for you to use or you may have to hire one in. Put together your own CD compilations for each element of the wedding and ask someone to monitor the music and make sure it doesn’t stop playing. You should also make sure that whoever you appoint knows which songs to play when, particularly for your wedding ceremony!

You can also use an MP3 playing connected to the sound system which will give you greater control over the music as most can be programmed to play songs in a certain order. MP3s will also hold far more music than a CD can so you shouldn’t need to ask someone to keep changing the music every so often!
