One of the most common uses of wedding insurance is for supplier failure, since sadly it is all too common that a service provider or supplier of items necessary for the wedding is unable to fulfil their obligations. This could be due to illness, bankruptcy, poor organisation or even traffic issues. With many weddings incorporating the services of a growing number of suppliers, there is a greater likelihood that one of them will be forced to let you down.
Imagine, for example, that your limousine driver was forced to pull out because the head gasket of the limousine blew the day before. Or your florist failed to deliver because she's just been diagnosed as having Swine Flu. Perhaps your DJ isn't too bright with paperwork, double booked himself, and had to let you down, or your wedding cake can't be delivered because the van was involved in an accident and the cake was squashed.
Believe it or not, all of these problems really have happened - sometimes more often than you'd credit. There are so many reasons why suppliers of wedding services let people down, either due to careless planning, ill health or financial problems. Wedding insurance is absolutely vital in such cases, either to allow you to afford to replace the service provider with someone else at the last minute, or at least retrieve any deposit you may have paid.
Of course, if the supplier failed to deliver as promised then they may well offer you a full return on your deposit. However, these are not the best of times economically speaking for many businesses, with a growing number suffering, and being forced to declare themselves bankrupt. In such cases you may be entirely unable to obtain your deposit, and wedding insurance will be the only way in which you can claim it back.
When you consider than the average deposit is well into three figures, yet you'll find wedding insurance prices in just two figures, you can see very easily that it's well worth having. If you don't need to claim on your wedding insurance then you're hardly like to complain - since it means that your wedding went smoothly, everyone delivered as promised and you are now happily married!
However, should you be let down, you'll be very glad of your wedding insurance as it will allow you to either put things right financially, or if you have had to postpone your wedding, you'll be able to afford to rearrange it much sooner.
It's important to remember that many suppliers of goods or services for weddings are just people, and therefore fallible. Relying on a business name, assuming it will always be there, always untouchable is to forget that if national chains such as Woolworths can collapse under the pressure of today's financial woes, then any of your suppliers could face the same fate.
With weddings planned many months in advance, it's impossible for you or them to predict whether they'll still be trading at that time. Wedding insurance may not offer any guarantees that businesses won't collapse - but if they do, at least you won't be going down with them.
