Tips on Planning an Inexpensive Wedding!

Weddings are a multi-billion dollar industry and the idea of budgeting for one can be overwhelming. However, a beautiful and memorable wedding does not mean that it has to cost a small fortune.

Start with the small stuff. Make your own invitations, there are so many options at retail stores and online, that there is no reason to pay big bucks for them. Don't stop there. Make your own centerpieces as well. Think outside the box-- you don't have to have flowers on every table. Small votive candles or even candies create just as pleasant an atmosphere, and they can do double duty as favors for your guests.

If your groom can rent his tux, why not rent a dress? The thousand dollar plus price tag can be tough to swallow for a dress that is worn once. Want to have a dress to call "your own"? Check out consignment shops or even EBay. You can find designer dresses for a fraction of the original cost. Check in with your mother or grandmother, perhaps their dress is in good condition and perhaps you will be able to make something old, something new.

Sometimes it is hard to limit the number of people you invite. You may have obligations that send your guest attendance through the roof. If you can't avoid a large guest list, consider a buffet dinner. Often this is a less expensive option than a plated dinner. If you are able, just invite the people most close to you and your fiancé-friends and family who have been an active part of your lives. Not only will this cut the cost on food, but it will create an intimate setting as well. If you want to keep it really inexpensive, have a pot luck wedding. Have your friends and family make their favorite dishes or something from their cultures or yours to create a truly personal event. Another huge cost cutter when it comes to the reception is to have a cash bar rather than an open bar. If you have some room in your budget, consider and open bar just for the cocktail hour.
