Wedding Songs – Choosing Your Wedding Entertainment

Your choice of wedding songs will only be successful by choosing the right method by which to play them. Your wedding day will consist of many different elements all of which will need to be signified by your choice of wedding songs. For instance, your cocktail hour and wedding breakfast will require some ambient background music which isn’t too loud and which facilitates your guests mingling and chatting with each other.

Your evening entertainment will require rather more thought and then there is the choice of wedding songs for the first dance, cutting the wedding cake and perhaps a special tune for the last song of the night. When considering your wedding entertainment here are some of the choices for playing your wedding songs:

Live Band: This can be a great choice for the evening party, although it is a good idea to choose a band that can play a mixture of music from different eras so that there is something for everyone. They can play any genre you want or a mixture of different styles and sounds, but always try to get to see them in action before you hire them for your wedding.

DJ and Disco: This is the most popular choice for the evening party and one which allows for the greatest amount of personal input from you. As with a live band, try to see them action before hiring them and make sure the DJ is someone you can work with. Arrange to meet with them before the wedding day to put together a play list of wedding songs suitable for your wedding and which will have your guest’s boogieing all night long!

Live Musicians: This includes a string quartet, harpist, pianist etc and is a nice idea for your cocktail hour where they can play some nice background music to get your guests in the mood for a party before the wedding breakfast. You may also want to keep them playing through the wedding breakfast. Ask around for personal recommendations from friends and family and check out advertisements in the back of bridal magazines. Your reception venue may also be able to recommend someone to you.

Singers/Soloist: A soloist can be a nice touch for your wedding ceremony, particularly a religious ceremony. Live singers and soloists can be a nice addition to your evening entertainment and could share the entertaining duties with your DJ. Ask them to play two 30 or 40 minutes sets during the evening to break up your entertainment.
