Think twice about taking any drug, unless it is absolutely necessary. Weight-loss pills, like all drugs have side-effects attached to them, and here is another instance of an "approved" drug with possible serious risk attached.
Recently the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said they are investigating reports of liver damage in patients taking Alli, the only nonprescription weight-loss drug approved by the agency.
The regulators said last week they have 32 reports of liver damage in patients taking Alli and Xenical, the prescription weight-loss version, both which contain the drug orlistat. The reports, submitted over a ten year period, included 27 hospitalized patients, and six with liver failure.
The FDA says a direct relationship between the weight-loss treatments and liver injury has not been fully established, and advised patients to continue taking the drugs as directed.
So in spite of the announcement, the FDA hasn't yet fully decided if the liver problems are due to orlistat. Overweight or obese people are those more likely to use these weight-loss drugs, also have a higher risk of liver failure due to a condition called nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
The FDA has not issued a warning label for these drugs, nor has it advised doctors to change their weight-loss prescribing practices.
(One can only wonder why?)
However the FDA has advised you to contact a doctor if you experience signs of liver problems such as jaundice (yellow skin or whites of the eyes), brown urine, weakness, or pain in your abdomen after taking weight-loss pills.
My strong advice to you, is to lose weight gradually by natural means. There are no easy weight-loss options that are risk free, and there are many mentally or physically scarred and unhappy people who will testify to this.
