Belly fat is one of those persistent facts of life for most of us. Even among the most fit among us, losing belly fat is no trivial task. For most body types (especially after age 25 or so), no amount of tread-milling or lifting weights seems to give us the rock-hard ab look we want.
Belly fat on both men and women can be the result of a number of factors, including heredity/genes, hormonal changes, age-related weight gain, and of course a change in overall eating habits. Besides being unattractive in excessive amounts, having too much belly fat can lead to several internal problems.
There are many paths to Rome, and no single workout or diet routine will work for everyone who is looking to get that washboard stomach by reducing their belly fat. Let's explore one of the easiest, most-accessible ways to reduce belly fat: walking.
Does Walking Really Lose Belly Fat?
In short: yes, it can and does. But, you have to know how to do your walking workouts the right way, the proper duration, and with the right frequency.
Walking workouts are not only great for your heart, legs and overall energy level - they are a great way to reduce your belly fat, too! Men and women who walk at a brisk pace for 45 minutes or more each day can shrink their belly fat by up to 15-20% - even without changing their eating habits!
Here are some pointers and facts about walking to reduce belly fat:
* Walking is something that we all able-bodied people do naturally anyway. It is simple, effective, and low-impact (on the knees and other joints, when compared to running or jogging).
* Walking requires no special equipment or clothing - except for a good pair of shoes.
* People of all ages can engage in walking as a form of exercise.
* Try tightening and loosening your stomach muscles as you walk. You will be surprised at how much this can help give you more definition in your abdominal area.
* Before walking, be sure to do some light stretching of your legs, buttocks and back.
* Walk for at least 20-30 minutes per day, 3-5 days per week, for maximum benefit.
If you are trying to lose your excess belly fat, consider taking up regular walking. It can help you see results in no time.
