Summer is coming up fast. You still have that spare tire sitting above your belt, and you've grown a bit tired of it. It's time to get into beach shape, but how do you accomplish rapid weight loss? Although losing weight rapidly can be a bit dangerous, there are steps you can take to safely and slowly take that spare tire off your waist.

First, you must understand how weight loss works. Then you must change your lifestyle from that of a couch potato to one that includes adequate activity.

Weight loss always involves one basic principle: increase your metabolic rate so that you burn more calories than you consume. Everyone has a different natural metabolic rate. That's why you see rail-thin women that can devour hamburgers and pizza every day. Their metabolic rate is high, so their body quickly converts the food they scarf down into energy. No, it's not fair, but it's the way some things work.

To increase your metabolic rate, you have to exercise your body. This is going to be different for everyone. Cardiovascular exercise is very important, since it's the standard exercise system for weight loss. Whether you like running, cycling or swimming, cardio will help you lose weight. Besides the weight loss, it just makes you feel better and turns your body into an efficient machine.

It's important to maintain your exercise regimen. Whether you choose to exercise three days a week or six, the most vital component is consistency. By keeping up with your routine, you strengthen muscles that you might not know you have. Your body's metabolic rate will alter itself to fit your new lifestyle. Your body will burn that excess fat that has been lining your belly as fuel.

As your lifestyle changes, you will notice that weight loss slows down. This is normal, as your body is adjusting to the exercise. It's not time to go crazy and go on 10 mile jogs three times daily. You can push your body up to a certain point, but be careful about overdoing it. If you feel that you may be pushing the limits too hard, consult your doctor.

Rapid weight loss is hard to achieve and usually unwise. Some of the methods involved can be dangerous, even deadly. But they can work. Many supplements involve some form of stimulant, which serves to speed up metabolism while suppressing appetite. It's not a method for everyone, and some people have encountered severe health problems after abusing dietary supplements. If you're not careful, the substances in these weight loss pills can be highly addictive.

If you're having trouble with weight loss after developing a healthy routine, consult a specialist. By analyzing your body, previous lifestyle and metabolism, a specialist can advise you in particular methods that will work wonders for you.
