Healthy and Fast Ways to Lose Weight

Fast weight loss and good health are two terms that rarely go hand in hand as most "crash diets" offer little more than the loss of initial "water weight" and vital muscle tissue. However, there are still speedy ways of dropping those extra pounds while still keeping your overall health in check.

Until science makes an extraordinary breakthrough and develops a magical pill to replace exercise, we're simply going to have to see to it that we make it an important part of our lives if we want to lose weight quickly and keep it off for the long term.

Fortunately exercise doesn't mean enrolling in an aerobics class, unless, of course, that's something you'd like to do, or working out seven days a week, but rather incorporating more physical activity into your daily regimen.

Investing in a cheap pedometer will give you a precise idea as to the number of steps you're taking each day. A sedentary person may take as few as one to three thousand per day, which may at first sound like a lot, but someone who is always active and on the go may take as many as ten thousand steps each day, which is the equivalent of walking almost five miles.

Be creative when it comes to increasing the number of steps you take per day, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk the dog, or walk your neighbor's if you don't have one, go window shopping, explore the park or the neighborhood, or enlist a friend as a walking partner.

Although simply walking may not seem like a fast way to lose weight, the physical activity will kick start your metabolism allowing you to lose more and more weight while making healthy choices at the dinner table.

Drinking plenty of water, the colder the better to boost your metabolism, is another simple yet healthy fast way to lose weight. If you're not used to drinking water and instead have been filling your body with empty calories and unhealthy sugars and chemicals you will lose some water weight in the beginning. This is actually ideal for ridding the system of harmful toxins before losing the stored up fat cells that no longer need to be used as fuel for the body.

Making sure your diet is rich with fat burning foods is another sure way of losing weight both quickly and healthy.

Coupled with regular exercise, foods that help to increase metabolism and burn fat such as fruits like apples, cherries, grapefruits, lemons, oranges, and tomatoes or vegetables including broccoli, cabbage, carrots, corn, mushrooms, lettuce, onions, and peppers will help you to efficiently burn calories.

Besides the usual diet and exercise, taking care of your mind is also imperative for fast weight loss as stress and tension both play a role in how well we're able to shed excess pounds.

Although exercise itself may do wonders for keeping stress at bay, actively look for ways of staying relaxed and happy such as yoga, taking up a new hobby or reacquainting yourself with an old one, and finding support from friends and family are all excellent and fast means of losing weight without compromising your precious health.
