Losing Pregnancy Weight – Losing Weight at Healthy Pace

Losing Pregnancy Weight is possible through various methods and if you want to achieve this the first thing you must remember is NOT comparing yourself with any celebrity mom who giving birth today and back to her slim body tomorrow. Now that is not going to happen to an average mom; the reasons are:

  1. You are on your own, not surrounded by nutritionist, dietician, personal trainer, and fashion designer like she does.
  2. Usually, it is going take 6-8 months to regain your original weight after pregnancy. If you try to make it faster by cutting calories drastically, you will experience various health problems, especially if you are breastfeeding as well.

Now that I know that losing pregnancy weight cannot be rushed, what should I do to lose weight in healthy pace?

  1. For the first three months after giving birth, don't think anything about losing weight; instead try to develop healthy eating habit complemented with mild exercise. There are many exercise DVDs for after pregnancy mom, just pick the one that suit your taste. When you feel that your body has recover and your period has return to normal, take a healthy weight loss program to start reducing your extra weight.
  2. Walking with your baby is a fun alternative for light exercise; Use a Snugli, swing, or baby jogger and take a 10 minutes walk with your baby every day. When you already get used to it, increase the duration gradually.
  3. Breastfeeding can help your weight loss process since it will release hormones to your body which will help your uterus to return to its normal size and shape. Just remember to keep your calories within healthy range if you are breastfeeding to maintain your milk's quantity and quality. DO NOT rely on junk food to add your calories intake, focus only on eat nutritious food.

When your body has recovered and you feel ready, the next step in losing pregnancy weight is picking a weight loss program; do not just take a weight loss program based on its weight loss speed. A good program for post pregnancy mom should meet these criteria:

  1. No fad diet; forget cabbage soup and master cleanse even though they will give you fast weight loss. Choose a program with healthy meal plans and proper nutrition intake.
  2. Guide you toward healthier lifestyle by teaching proper food portion and basic nutrition knowledge; your body has just experienced enormous strain and you will lead a whole new life with your newborn baby, so you will need to keep healthy all the time.
  3. Having adequate portion of exercise; this will give you more energy. If possible, do it with a friend to make you keep motivated.

Any weight loss programs that match these criteria will do for losing pregnancy weight. Note that no matter what weight loss program you choose, I strongly against using it before your body completely recover; do not rush it, wait at least three months before starting any program.
