Snooze to Lose Pounds

If you want to find a way to lose weight faster, and you think
there is nothing new under the sun, then what I'm about to tell
you will really make you nod off.
According to Dr Kenneth Goodrick at Baylor, a good night's sleep
is a vital ingredient for weight loss.
He believes that lack of sleep robs people of the energy they
need to exercise and sets up a vicious low-energy cycle that
sabotages your weight loss programme. Often when energy reserves
are low, people turn to high-fat and high-sugar laden foods or
caffeinated drinks for energy pick-me-ups...all of which interfere
with weight loss efforts. Some may drink 10 to 15 caffeinated
beverages a day, which has a adverse effect on sleep quality.
It's a double whammy.
This is not the only fascinating connection between sleep and
weight gain. Researchers have found there are two hormones
involved. Leptin, a hormone that suppresses appetite, and
grehlin, which increases food intake and is thought to play a
role in long-term regulation of body weight. Sleep deprivation
lowers the levels of leptin and raises levels of grehlin. This
is thought to be the reason why obese people suffering with
sleep apnea often put on weight faster than others.
Goodrick says, "Sleep is a time for the brain, the body, and all
the hormones to get regulated and restore themselves to the
baseline values for the next day. If you have caffeine, or
inadequate sleep, you don't have a chance for all of those
restorative processes to get finished. So you're ending not
quite fit, or metabolically where you should be".
What is a good night's sleep? Participants in a US study who got
less than 4 hours of sleep each night were 73 percent more
likely to be obese than those who sleep between 7 and 9 hours a
night, the recommended amount. Those who slept only 5 hours each
night were 50 percent more likely to be overweight, and those
who slept 6 hours a night were 23 percent more likely to be
overweight.
It's official, for good health we all need to wake up and get a
good night's sleep.

I am 61 wiegh 225 lbs, I have spent my life raising kids and grandkids, and working full time and being married 22 years to a man that cheated all of it. I have helped my son raise his kids, because of his loss of both kidneys and illness, he is now married again, his wife gave him a kidney and he is doing better although I still have his two older children with me. I want to do something for me, I went to the dr, took a tredmill test, am totally out of shape, I have a 5 in bar in my neck from work related injury, I barely get by, live in a mobile home where my 6'4" grandson sleeps on the couch. thats all fine but I want to lose weight and live, and get in shape, please tell me how!! I have tried everything, I am currently on weight watchers and I am watching it go up haha, I am at wits end. I have had a hard life, but thats ok too, just want to lose weight and meet someone, a man won't look at a heavy woman especially one with average income. You have it all together, help me get it together too.

Can I ask you something is Darla reading into this and can she accept Phyllis?s answer when Phyllis said that Darla is thin and thin everywhere?Phyllis and Darla went to see a movieWhen they were on the bus going home Phyllis saw a girl on flag outside a Karate school in a bikini. And Phyllis said "IF you take Karate you can look like her too". Phyllis clarified YOU as meaning people in general. Darla thought she meant that Phyllis did not think Darla was thin so Darla asked Phyllis if Phyllis thought Darla is thin and she said the following:(1) You are on the thin side(2) Yes you can accept the fact you are thin(3) But she also said "You have a thin face" and Darla said to Phyllis "But I am thin every where" and she replied yes you are(4) I have a friend that is thinner than us(5) No one would ever call you fatDarla asked Phyllis if I had made the remark about "If you do Karate you can look like her too" and Phyllis said she would have laughed.When they got off the bus at Chevy Chase Darla said to Phyllis that people tell Darla that Darla does not look like she eats and Phyllis said that she would not go that far. So Darla asked Phyllis what she meant and Phyllis said "you are not anorexic" Darla told Phyllis that she doesn?t want to be"Darla is over the part about the Karate. But Darla keeps saying to herself if Phyllis just said "yes you are thin" then Darla would not have pursued it. But when they were sitting on the bus and Phyllis said "you have a thin face" which made Darla feel as if Phyllis did not think Darla was thin all over, HOWEVER, when Darla said ?I am thin all over? PHYLLIS AGREED. But also getting off the bus Darla said that ppl tell Darla that she doesn?t look like Darla eats and Phyllis said "I wouldnt go that far" so Darla said "You mean I am not anorexic" and Phyllis said "Yes, you look healthy" and Darla asked Phyllis if Phyllis thinks Phyllis looks healthy and she said Yes I feel that I look healthy.Also Darla?s cousin Beth told Darla when Darla told Beth the story: NO ONE WOULD EVER MISTAKE YOU FOR BEING ANYTHING OTHER THAN THINWhen Darla told Phyllis that everyone says I am skinny she replied: "Well it is better than every one telling you that you are fat"THEN TWO DAYS LATER ON THE PHONE PHYLLIS CONFIRMED THAT SHE THINKS DARLA IS THIN
