http://tinyurl.com/mb66mr I have studied the myths surrounding ways of losing weight, and the pitfalls of starvation diets. I wanted to share what I discovered about the powers of the metabolism, as the Holy Grail to maintaining a healthy weight, or losing excess weight...
How are you feeling today? Are you anxious or depressed as you look down at the scales and notice that your weight has not reduced, but the scales reveal that you’ve actually gained weight? You might be wondering why? If you have a gym membership, and you’re working out, lifting weights, or other vigorous weight bearing exercise, then you may actually be converting high protein foods or shakes, into building muscle mass. Muscle is heavier than adipose or fatty tissue, which could account for your weight gain. Physically you may be feeling energized, stronger, and fitter, as the stronger your muscles the more energetic you’ll feel. It could be that you are wanting to lose body fat and not gain muscle bulk?
It’s a well documented fact that to lose weight the healthy way and keep it off implies a lifestyle change. The ratio between the energy (calories) that you take into your body i.e foods and beverages, to the energy that you expend i.e during activity or exercise, is the critical principle. If the energy or calories are greater than the energy expenditure, then the body stores the extra energy or fuel, as fat. A healthy lifestyle should consist of:
1. Food you eat should be fresh, with a combination of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. These groups should include fruit & vegetables, cereals, dairy, meat & fish and plenty of water to drink.
2. Exercise should be activities you enjoy, an exercise that makes you perspire moderately, or which increases your heart rate, for only 30 minutes each day.
3. Rest and sleep is vital to your metabolism, as your body burns calories even while you sleep.
I am appalled at the spin doctoring in our media and the internet, brain washing vulnerable people and, selling them lies about potions, pills and shakes that are the silver bullet to losing excess weight rapidly.
Starving the body of food, fad diets, low fat and low carb diets, are not only dangerous and damaging to your well being while depleting immune function, they are reported to be responsible for increasing the risks of certain cancers.
There is a ground swell of good nutritional science which is great news for us in the 21st century, dispelling the notion that to eat less is best in weight loss. Starving the body and restricting food groups, can cause bloating, cramps, intestinal pain, terrible constipation, and other nutritional complications.
Think of your body as an engine room, and the furnace is your metabolism. The furnace needs fuel to burn or it won't generate the energy for your body to function to its optimum potential. In order for your metabolism to function properly, it needs to be fuelled by good, healthy small meals, but eaten at regular intervals. In other words, EAT TO LOSE WEIGHT!! To deny your body good quality, nutritionally balanced regular meals, is depriving your metabolism of fuel and energy to improve brain function, muscle glycogen, and bowel elimination. When the body is digesting adequate, and sustaining foods, like complex carbohydrates, and proteins, your metabolic rate is increased, and the result is the burning of excess energy, as body fat.
The solution is to eat your way to a healthy and sustainable weight. Food never tasted so good!!
