Acne is a real problem for many people - old and young alike. It has long been a misconception that only teenagers are plagued with this skin eruption. But in recent times the fact that many adults suffer with acne is more and more generally accepted. We now believe that adult acne is on the increase.

Nevertheless, acne can be controlled and even resolved with proper treatment and time. On that point there are heaps of acne and related skin care products around. The acne skin care products can be broken down into into 3 broad categories:
* Preventive or all-purpose acne skin care products
* Nonprescription, specialized acne skin care products
* Prescription acne skin care products.

The all-purpose acne skin care products are the ones that are employed as an acne-prevention step. These include cleansers, make-up removers and similar products that facilitate the prevention of skin problems.

In the actual sense, these acne skin care products are those that should comprise part of your every day routine. As the saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"!

Although not every preventive measure is labeled as such many of these are destined to act comparable to an acne skin care product. These acne skin care products work against the stimulants of acne.

For instance, they restrict the output of sebum/oil and prevent obstruction of skin pores. In essence, these acne skin care products preclude the oil from becoming snared or trapped in the pores of one's skin and thus hinder the development of bacterium that often results in acne.

The general acne skin care products likewise include products such as skin peels. These act by getting rid of lifeless skin cells, therefore decreasing the possibility of pore-clogging and thus less bacteria growth.

There are also specialized acne skin care products that are available over-the-counter that is, without the requirement of a prescription. These include products like vanishing creams which draw out the excess oil from the skin.

Nearly all of these acne skin care products are founded on the ingredients of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the foes of bacterium (and therefore acne).

By preventing or restricting the growth of bacteria the development of acne is prevented or at least greatly reduced. You ought to start out with a product that has a smaller concentration of benzoyl peroxide (for instance. 5%) and see how your skin reacts to that.
Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also popular as acne skin care products. You may need to sample a few, prior to you finding the best acne skin care product for you. If nothing available without a prescription appears to be effective, you should visit a dermatologist.

Prescription acne skin care products are the ones that are prescribed by a dermatologist. This can include creams that can be rubbed on the afflicted surface area, oral antibiotic drugs and a multitude of topical treatments.

A dermatologist could also advise a minor operative process to take out the contents of pustules. This is a minor surgical procedure that does surgically what some people attempt to do when 'squeezing pimples'. All the same, you should never attempt to squeeze pimples or remove the pimple by yourself, it is possible that you will do permanent damage to your skin.

Other prescriptions could be a hormone-based treatment (since hormonal alterations are also recognized as causal agents of acne). Such acne skin care products are acknowledged to be very powerful in many cases.

Indeed, with all those acne skin care products, coping with acne is now much easier than it was in the past. Begin with preventative measures - then step up your arsenal if needed.
