Back Pain: a Natural Relief

Lots of talk about back pain these days. Just yesterday, October 7th 2008, NBC ran a story about back pain and reminded me to write this article.

Way back in the 90’s I was picking up a small piece of wood and my back went out. Talk about pain. I could not move. I was on all fours crawling slowly to the house. Then my girl friend and I went to the local doctor, the only one in this small town in Arkansas and all he could do was send me to another doctor. I was on the floor in pain. But if I stayed perfectly still, it was okay. So I stayed perfectly still for about a week. There I studied and learned how the back works and what I could do to prevent further attacks.

It was too simple: Pain I learned is my friend. It is a warning to stop what you are doing and change. Change to what I asked? I changed my diet and stopped eating meat, hard boiled eggs, heavy cheeses and white flour and white sugar. WHY? Because those foods were causing deterioration to my spine. The vertical spine I learned is an evolution marvel. The slow change from the horizontal spines of fish to the spines in amphibians and then to reptiles and onto mammals and then onto primates and finally into a vertical spine in humans is truly a miracle! All along this development the animals mainly ate a vegetable quality food. And that got me to thinking about food and how it can create a strong body or a weak one. And now lying in bed I got it. When we eat meat and white sugar we are partaking in a degenerative process of our bodies. Sounded like hogwash at first but it began to sink in as my back pain went away as stayed away from foods that were creating a weaker body. And over time I improved my diet. I am totally vegetarian now and would recommend it to anyway who has the guts to do it. It is tough…but it makes you tough too! Ever wonder where the cows and horses get their strength?
The strength to pull that plow or run that race? Henry David Thoreau asked that to the farmer who laughed at him for being a vegetarian.

So the answer to helping you in the long run relieve the pain in your back. Try changing your diet to one that includes grain, lots of vegetables and beans. You’ll be glad you did. I did and I am pretty much pain free. When I drink too much now…I get a bit of a reminder…but nothing like I experienced before
