Beware of Fashion - Women’s Shoes That Harm Your Feet

We all like to follow fashion, but at what price? Consider more than just style and trends when you pick your next pair of shoes.

High heels should only be worn occasionally. If you wear them daily, you run the risk of shortening your calf muscles, which in turn can cause an inflammation of you Achilles tendon. This can make it difficult to walk in bare feet. High heels also increase the risk of getting plantar fasciitis: a painful degenerative condition that affects the heel bone. For daily use, you may want to wear a shoe with a comfortable heel of about one inch in height.

If your work requires you to walk a lot or stand for long periods, make sure to wear shoes that support the heel of your foot and that absorb shock. You can add padded insoles to those shoes that are too hard or thin.

Pointed shoes can cause a deviation of the big toe and eventually pain and calluses. In the worst of cases, surgery may be needed to correct the shape of the toe.

Thin-soled sneakers offer little padding and they can cause kneecap problems. The fact that many young people wear them unlaced makes matters worse. This could eventually cause a misalignment in leg joints.

Finally, only wear shoes that properly fit the size and width of your feet. This may seem obvious, but how many times have you bent those rules for shoes you fell in love with? Not to mention, the potential money you will save not having to pay a foot doctor when you get older.
