Endometriosis Symptoms, Causes of Endometriosis

For most women, the menstrual period is just a fact of life, a monthly occurrence as unremarkable as sending in a car payment. Not so for women with endometriosis. In endometriosis, the tissue that lines the uterus, called the endometrium, implants and grows in areas it shouldn't. This wandering tissue sometimes bleeds and/or secretes an irritant into the surrounding tissue when a woman gets her period. So she is hit with cramps and pain wherever the tissue has implanted, which could be outside the uterus, the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, or bowel.

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disorder, which affects around 15% of all women. The symptoms are infertility, pelvic pain, painful intercourse, heavy periods, constipation and diarrhea and back pain. Due to the nature of the symptoms endometriosis threatens both the psychological and physical health of sufferers and finding ways of preventing endometriosis symptoms is a key goal for many women.

Endometriosis growing somewhere else other than the endometrium also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. Moderate exercise not only helps to strengthen the body's muscles, but also helps to balance the body's hormones which is important for women with endometriosis.

Eventually some women will start to feel the symptoms and notice that they are not normal. The pain during her menstrual cycle will steadily become worse as the months go by. This is a steady decline in a women's health as well as in the declining health of her reproductive system.

Endometriosis located somewhere other than in the uterus rupturing during menstruation. Since the blood cannot escape, it retents in our body causing damage to the organs or any part of the body hosting the endometriosis resulting in severe pain toward the end of the period.

Of course, some endometriosis may be a primary immune deficiency disease, but many doctors gravitate more toward that secondary immune deficiency disease verdict. Whatever the case, there is not argument that women with endometriosis tend to be more prone to illness. Whether the immune system is not working properly or it is compromised by external factors, the bottom line is that an impaired immune system leaves the body wide open for other illnesses such as colds, flu and other infections.

Many people don’t know that endometriosis is one of the most common causes of pelvic pain and infertility in women. Endometriosis is defined as a painful, chronic disease where tissue that should only be found inside the uterus is found somewhere else inside the body. The areas that can be affected include the bowels, intestines, appendix, ovaries, and the pelvic sidewall.

Retrograde menstruation occurs at one time or another in 90 percent of women, but causes endometriosis only 10 to 20 percent of the time. Researchers believe that uterine tissue that is not removed during menstruation creates cysts only in the absence of an enzyme (17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2) to convert an especially potent form of estrogen, 17-beta-estrodiol, into a more gently effective hormone, estrone.
