Consumers should know that the vitamin K belongs to the group of lipophilic, hydrophobic vitamins which is needed for posttranslational modification in specific proteins required for blood coagulation. Chemically vitamin k belongs to the 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives normally. Several other forms of vitamin k are Vitamin K1 which is also called  as  phylloquinone or one can phytomenadione . Also vitamin K2 called  as   menatetrenone which is produced from bacteria in the Large Intestine.  Consumers will not find dietary deficiency unless the intestines are disturbed badly due to decreased production of normal flora. Users will see that  three synthetic forms of vitamin K like vitamins K3, K4, and K5, getting used in many areas like the pet food industry and for inhibiting fungal growth .  

Lots of members of the vitamin K group shares a methylated naphthoquinone ring structure like  differs in the aliphatic side chain joined at the 3-position . Phylloquinone also called as  vitamin K1 containing four isoprenoid residues in the side chain showing one as unsaturated. Enaquinones do  have side chains consists of unsaturated isoprenoid residues called as MK-n and n refering to the number of isoprenoids.  Vitamin K also involved in the carboxylation of certain glutamate residues in proteins for the formation of gamma-carboxyglutamate residues . Many vitamin k  residues are situated in the protein domains called as  Gla domains. Gla-residues are mostly having the usage for binding calcium in the body.  In this way the vitamin k's gla-residues is essential for the biological activities of all the specific Gla-proteins.  Vitamin k aids in the regulation of three physiological processes like blood coagulation, bone metabolism, and osteocalcin , matrix gla protein and vascular biology etc.

People can come to know allergic reaction in certain cases but there is no as such report of toxicity associated with large dosages of the phylloquinone. Consumers should know that one form of vitamin k is vitamin k 3 showing the symptoms of toxicity in certain cases.  After this food and drug association has banned the consumption of vitamin k as over dosages has shown allergic reactions, hemolytic anemia, and cytotoxicity in cells of liver in thebody . Many symptoms are also known as  secondary vitamin K Groups that may lead to secondary vitamin K deficiency like those on bulimics, stringent diets, and several others who intakes anticoagulants. Many drugs which are associated with vitamin K deficiency like salicylates, barbiturates, and cefamandole . Consumption of vitamin k effects both equally whether male and female sexes are there. In many cases vitamin k symptoms of deficiencies like heavy menstrual bleeding in women, anemia, bruising, and bleeding of the gums and nose are shown.
