The Liver

The liver is the body’s largest organ, weighing about 3 lbs. It is found on the right of the abdominal cavity. It has many functions including the production of substances that aid in the breakdown of fats, and the conversion of glucose to glycogen and production of urea, the main component of urine. It produces amino acids, and maintains the proper glucose levels in the blood. The liver is responsible for producing at least 80% of the cholesterol of the body.

The bile is produced in the liver, and stored in the gallbladder to aid in the digestive process, when food is eaten.  The bile duct is common to the liver, gallbladder and pancreas. The bile is a bitter, yellow fluid, consisting mainly of cholesterol lecithin, calcium, bile salts, acids, and waste materials, which can form gallstones from the bile salts and cholesterol due to an imbalance.

Function of the Bile

The two major functions of the bile are breaking down the fats from food to a state that it can be utilized by the body, and as a powerful antioxidant, which helps with the removal of toxins from the liver. During the removal of the toxins, such as bacteria, and viruses etc. by the liver, the bile aid in this process, it goes into the gallbladder, or goes directly into the small intestines, mixes with waste matter, and later eliminated as fecal matter. Approximately, a quart or a quart and a half of bile is produced by a healthy liver daily. According to gallbladderattack.com, people with problems with their gallbladder, should consider cleansing their liver and bowel, because people who suffer from constipation usually have a sluggish gallbladder.
