Migraine Headache Treatment, Ways to Treat Migraine Headache

Botox is emerging as a remedy for migraine headaches. An injectable cosmetic treatment for facial lines and wrinkles, Botox is actually a neurotoxic protein, called botulinum toxin type A, produced by the anaerobic, Gram positive, spore-forming bacteria Clostridium botulinum and which causes botulism. In its cosmetic application it acts by limiting the mobility of muscles underlying wrinkled skin, thereby rendering lines and wrinkles less noticeable.

Herbal Medicine The herb feverfew is one of the most effective natural medicines for migraine. Dried feverfew is sold in capsules by health food stores, and the recommended daily dose is 125mg, or one fresh leaf in a sandwich daily. Valerian is a natural herbal sedative that helps reduce stress and is useful for headaches: pour a cup of boiling water onto two teaspoons of the root and infuse. Willow bark and meadowsweet are natural herbal painkillers. Lavender can also help.

Nasya or medicated oil drops used for the treatment of migraine is of two types. The first is called "Shirovirechan", in which strong, irritant medicines are instilled as nasal drops, which induce sneezing and watery discharge. The second is called as "Avapidak nasya' in which a paste is prepared of a herb or several herbs, and the liquid is inserted in the nostrils. Usually, herbs like Vacha (Acorus calamus) and Pippali ( Piper longum) are used along with honey. Both procedures are aimed at removing the cause of the headache and the pain.

Different treatments include preventive or prophylactic medications and alternative therapies to cure the migraine headache. There are such therapies that are considered once the migraine has ensued to ward off the symptoms. Beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, anti-depressants, and Depakote, an anti-seizure drug are the prescribed medications used in migraine treatment. Some people use feverfew leaf, butterbur root, vitamin B12, and magnesium supplementation as the prophylactic migraine treatments.

New research work is done to find the cure for the gut which is known as the origin of migraine headaches in many patients One home treatment for migraine is using a frozen towel. Wet and squeeze a towel and place in the freezer for 5 minutes. When the towel is frozen place it around your head and eyes. This will give relief to the pounding pain. The headaches may last from a few hours to several days or even longer.

About 10 percent of migraine sufferers experience a warning aura before the headache starts this early symptom involves a visual disturbance, such as partial or temporary loss of sight or flashes of light and color. An aura may also cause tingling on one side of the face or body or a disturbance in the sense of smell. A good treatment for migraine attacks is making use of a towel which is frozen. For this, put water on a towel and squeeze it, then put it in the deep freezer for about five minutes. After that, just gently soothe it over the eyes and the head, which will provide quite some relief from the pain. Massaging is another treatment. This can be done by massaging the forehead as also your scalp by switching between fingers.
