People Want to Know, Does Reverse Osmosis Make Water Safe to Drink?

When we talk about the different water filtration systems, we often hear about the reverse osmosis system. However, is it a good way to treat water? Some of the major players in the water treatment industry market these types of systems. Thus, we will hear a lot about these systems due to the marketing dollars spent to get them out in the public. The fact is there are disadvantages of reverse osmosis.

The problem with reverse osmosis is that they also remove natural minerals that exist in your water. These minerals include calcium, magnesium and potassium. These are important for our health. Thus, even though you have a filtration system setup in your home, it may not be doing what we want it to do. Therefore, do the disadvantages of reverse osmosis outweigh the positive effects of having a water filter system?

Consumers want to know, does reverse osmosis make water safe to drink, well, yes, it does but you will need to get the minerals that are removed by this process; from another source, such as vitamin supplements. Another factor that is considered one of the disadvantages of reverse osmosis is the actual cost of this system. Usually this particular water filtration unit is much more expensive than your standard filter system. Do your homework when it comes to selecting the filtering unit for your home.

Our regular tap water contains chlorine and other chemicals. It may even contain such toxins as lead and it may contain harmful microscopic bacteria that could be resistant to the chlorine. The disadvantages of reverse osmosis include the fact that this process does not block any potential lead in the water or any of the possible microscopic bacteria contained in the water. In order to block lead, chlorine and any other chemical, you need activated carbon. Micron filtration will block the microscopic bacteria.

In conclusion, we would like to say that before you purchase any type of water filtration system, make sure you do your homework and keep in mind the disadvantages of reverse osmosis.
