Should You Drink Bottled Water To Enhance Weight Loss And Wellness?

50 years ago, people who lived near fresh water springs probably joked about the absurdity of bottling their pure water and making some extra cash for themselves. Who would ever pay for water when they can get it totally free out of their tap? Well just look at us now! Little did they know that it would become a trend to not only drink bottled water, but some people pay through the nose for it to enhance weight loss and wellness!

Why do we now consider tap water to be so dangerous? What happened to make us think that we should buy bottled water in the grocery store? Is it just a genius marketing ploy to make us think we need something we really don't...like Starbucks and Blu-Ray movies? And more importantly, how can we really know for sure that bottled water is even any better for us?

Bottled water or not, we all need water...especially if we are trying to lose or maintain weight in a safe, healthy way. Believe it or not, the United States has some of the highest tap water standards in the world. Higher, in fact, than the standards set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for bottled water.

Bottled water makes more sense in countries where portable water is scarce, but the United States now consumes more bottled water than any other country in the world. Bottled water, which is regulated by the FDA, is not tested as thoroughly or as frequently as tap water, which is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Obviously, we are a nation that falls for fads..and we fall hard!

The proof is in history. Have you ever heard of anyone becoming unhealthy because they drank tap water instead of bottled water? I have not. I have never heard of anyone getting fat or being deprived of vitamins and minerals from drinking tap water either. Perhaps there is a small taste difference, but certainly not enough to warrant spending an extra $20 a week in this time of economic crunch.

What people should be worrying about are the other liquids they are drinking on a daily basis. Why worry about water when it contains nothing harmful to your body? Drinks like carbonated soda, fatty latte's and smoothies and anything with diet on the label are the real culprits for bad health and weight gain.

Soda not only fills your body with unnecessary sugar and salts, it depletes calcium from your bones! The process of making diet sodas is even worse. The same ingredients that are used in floor cleaners are used to make sodas. Think about that the next time you are trying to decide between a Dr. Pepper and a Root Beer. I would not have to go out on a limb here to say that free tap water or bottled water is a much healthier choice than either of these.

How about all those fruit juice ads you see? You know the ones...where they depict fresh fruit being picked right off the trees and being squeezed right into the bottle for you. Would it not be great if this were true at affordable prices? The next time you think this is a healthy choice to enhance weight loss and wellness, picture the manufacturers mixing that fresh fruit juice with sugar and preservatives. This is what is really happening. Is tap water and bottled water sounding better yet?

The biggest culprit to all of these is probably the consumption of alcohol. Any unhealthy drink limited to an occasional consumption is not harmful, but alcohol is even more addivctive than soda and fruit juices. Do I really need to go into all of the health benefits of avoiding alcohol? We have heard them all before. Even when you drink alcohol, you will need even more tap water to hydrate your system afterwards...so just skip it all together!

Not to get off the subject, but these are the drinks that you should really be worried about avoiding if you are serious about how to enhance weight loss and wellness.  It is not about the small differences between bottled water and tap water. Simply put, there is no need to drink store bought bottled water in the United States and Canada unless you want flavor. There is just not enough of a difference. Both are healthy.

The cheapest and healthiest option is to purchase a water filter pitcher and filter your own tap water. You will get a slightly healthier water, but it will only make a difference if you avoid other unhealthy drinks. Like the convenience of carrying bottled water around? Fill your tap water into an empty bottle before you leave your house! Problem solved and money saved.

All municipal water suppliers are required to provide annual water-quality reports to their customers...and it's free! You can then choose a home water filtration system that specifically rids your water of any local contaminants. Home bottling is also the safest and most environmentally friendly alternative. It may take you 2 minutes to refill your pitcher each day, and another minute to fill your bottles, but it is well worth all that extra effort instead of spending your money on bottled water (and the gas it takes to drive to the store to buy it)!

When you put the right kinds of foods into your body and keep out the wrong kinds of drinks, you do not need to worry about  the small differences between bottled water and tap water. Water is water. It is essential to enhance weight loss and wellness and control weight management.  Bottled water or not, it will always be the healthiest beverage you can drink.
