The Smart Idiot's Guide to Rock Hard Abs

A rock hard "six pack" is something that many men and some woman would love to have, but is a washboard stomach as sported by the likes of Brad Pitt, David Beckham, the dude in that film 300 and Mr 50 Cent himself realistically attainable for the non-professional sportsman, actor and rappers of this world? Can the millions of evolving Homer Simpson clones out there in Average Land ever hope to disrobe with gleeful pride at the beach?

The good news is that there is real hope. A "six pack" is definitely and absolutely achievable for us the mere mortal masses, not assess, provided that a few very basic rules of thumb are followed and implemented. The not so bad news, however, is that it will take just a teeny-weeny little bit of effort and discipline to make it happen, but YES, it is 100% doable for the slightly podgy average man on the street; we can have that "six pack"!

This is what you have to do to get a flat, sexy tummy.

(1) Eat less

(2) Do more

(3) Stomach Crunch

If you are an average man, it would be helpful to cut your daily calorie intake from 2500 to 2000 kcal, while if you are a beautifully average woman, it would be helpful to cut your calorie intake from approximately 2000 to 1500 kcal. This is the eat less bit.

Next, run, walk, swim, jump, skip or cycle for 30-45 minutes each and every day; get that heart rate up and take pride in those falling sweat beads. Note, cardiovascular exercise is the real key to killers "abs". It burns fat from all over the body and it is because of this drop in overall fat mass that stomach muscles start to show in that "ripped" six-pack way. It is easier to look toned and muscular when you are leaner and less wobbly!

Finally, integrate stomach crunches into your exhilarating new lifestyle. For lower abdominals, from your belly button down, lie flat on your back, preferably on an exercise mat, and place your hands behind your, well, behind, so that your back is nice and straight and supported; bring your knees up towards your chest area, hold and slowly lower back down until your feet touch the mat. Do this 20 times in sets of 4, resting for a couple of minutes in-between. For a video demonstration of this basic technique go here >

To crunch your upper abdominals, lie flat on your back, just like before, but this time place your hands behind your head; bring your knees up towards your chest area to create your basic holding position; using your stomach muscles, lift up your head, nose towards knees, hold for two seconds, and slowly lower back down, keeping shoulders off the ground if at all possible. To sum up it all up, if you want a rock hard "six pack": eat good wholesome food, count your calories, run and crunch (as outlined above) on a regular basis. Do this and you WILL have a flatter, sexier stomach within weeks, and that's a proven physiological fact. It's easy-peasy; a Homer could do it.
