Today, you can find information about eco friendly water, bottles, safety and filters online. Of course, some of what you will see is advertising hype, designed to tempt you to purchase something that’s supposed to be “greener” than other choices. This article looks only at the facts. It should help you see the difference between hype and real green.
Some bottling companies advertise their beverages as eco-friendly choices. That’s hype.
Regardless of where it comes from, there are no bottled beverages that are good for the environment; the farther away the manufacturer, the more natural resources that were used to ship it to transport it to your store’s shelf.
If you want to do something good for the environment, invest in a good home purifier. Buy reusable glass containers and bottle your own beverages. Use slices of fresh fruit for flavoring or make your own juices. You’ll save money and you’ll be drinking something that is better for your health.
Plastic bottles are a major source of pollution. So, eco friendly water does not come in a plastic bottle. It comes out of your own tap.
Many people have turned away from tap-water, because it is known to be full of contaminants. Chlorine, chlorination byproducts, industrial waste, traces of prescription drugs, herbicides, pesticides and other contaminants have been found in samples taken from around the world.
Large scale treatment facilities make the water “safer” to drink, but if you want the safest choice, you need to do something more at home. The best home purifiers will remove all of the impurities mentioned above, and more.
But, are there eco friendly water filters? Don’t the replacement cartridges end up in a landfill?
Today’s filtration cartridges are small and self-contained. They trap contaminants that would otherwise become sources of pollution, further downstream.
You can check the system’s product performance data to be sure that the cartridge has a long lifespan. The pitcher filters last only about six weeks. The best systems have cartridges that last about six months.
The old reverse osmosis filters were not environmentally friendly, because contaminants were not trapped. They went right back into the surface or groundwater. RO made the water safer for individuals to drink, but it did nothing for the wildlife and people that lived downstream.
Today, we have eco friendly water filters. They make our homes safer and help protect the homes of animals and people that live downstream.
