The Water is Cool in School Project

It is now not a groundbreaking assertion to say that most of us are not getting enough water. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, we all consume far too many liquids that have no nutritional benefits whatsoever and moreover and in some cases are dehydrating rather than hydrating in any way. Most of us can't get through the day without our mandatory cups of coffee or tea. Both of these are natural stimulants so increase heart rate and therefore drain the body of its natural water. Fizzy drinks like coke, lemonade and red bull are equally bad offenders, as not only do they dehydrate, they also erode the enamel on the teeth and are worse than chocolate or other sweets for the gums. Even worse these fizzy drinks are the most common alcohol mixer and when teamed with rum and vodka become a sugary dehydration cocktail!

Another reason for poor water intake in later life, is down to the fact that some of us are carrying with us the bad habits we learnt as children. If we were consistently not getting enough water at a young age, our bodies and bladders become used to certain levels of water being consumed, and find it hard- and uncomfortable in some cases- to exceed these levels.

This is why the Water is Cool in School campaign is so crucial. WCS strives to make sure that children have regular and easy access to drinking water through making sure that schools install water coolers or fountains in communal areas and even classrooms. As it stood in 2000 most schools did not provide these facilities and had fountains only in the toilet area of their buildings, as well as didn't encourage pupils to drink, especially after exercise.

The Water Delivery Company supports this initiative as it understands the importance of drinking water at all ages. Being hydrated can avert such unwanted health problems as kidney stones, constipation, chronic headaches, and even some cancers. I bet that's made you want to pick up a glass of the good stuff today!
