Some people will lead normal lives unaware that they have a vision abnormality. Some of the abnormalities that are discovered most often during vision care appointments will be nearsightedness and farsightedness. These abnormalities discovered during a regular eye exam do not raise fear in people because the eye care patient might know many people who claim to suffer these abnormalities and are still able to see clearly after eye care treatments.

When these same eye care patients are told that they suffer from conditions like presbyopia, monovision, and dry eye, there is more cause to worry because these terms are seldom discussed in friendship circles. During a vision care examination, the optometrist will give patients a full explanation of each condition and go through a very thorough explanation of the required treatment options available.

Some patients will show symptoms of a vision abnormality long before they are told by an eye care professional that they have a vision deficiency. An abnormality that millions of people have is called hyperopia, and the symptoms of having it are eye strain and getting tired after driving long distances or working with documents for an extended period. Most people would relax a bit if they were told that they were farsighted because so many other people they know have hyperopia but never knew it by that name. Most of the symptoms for hyperopia are corrected with eyeglasses.

Other vision abnormalities might only be corrected through a series of surgical procedures and patients are happy to have vision care insurance to cover most of the costs. During regular eye examinations, an optometrist or ophthalmologist might discover a tumor embedded in the orbital regions of the eyeball. This type of finding will alarm the patient and other tests will be done by the vision care specialist to ensure that tumors, and another other abnormalities have not found a haven in the other eye socket cavity.

Without regular eye care exams, this type of abnormality could have resulted in the person losing all eyesight for life. People do not put a great deal of focus on the value of good eyesight until an abnormality is discovered or eyesight capabilities have diminished considerably. Vision care patients that take the time to schedule regular eye care exams with a qualified eye care professional are assured of learning about abnormalities before it is too late to correct the deficiency using a variety of methods.

Some people are right when they blame old age for the eye abnormalities they are experiencing because certain vision defects only occur after people have reached the middle-age range of the forties. The symptoms but not the name, presbyopia, are common to eye patients because the need to hold all reading material at a distance is what they have visited an eye care professional to make complaints about. To rectify this age-old problem, eye care professionals will usually recommend eyeglasses equipped with bifocal lenses. The symptoms for this vision abnormality could mimic others, but a thorough eye exam will determine the true culprit.
